School begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 3:00 p.m. Extended day care is
available from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
WOLCS
kids are provided with a wide variety of educational
and spiritual
instruction throughout their day.
Elementary
Curriculum and Instructional Materials:
The teaching-learning cycle of every lesson taught at WOLCS has at
its core a world view based on the truths about the character of God and
our relationship to Him.
Water of Life Christian School uses the Sate of California Content
Standards as a guideline for minimum student achievement in the core
subjects. In other subjects, such as computer, we use the National
Education Technology Standards (NETS). Where no state or federal
standards are available, as in Bible, we carefully choose curriculum
materials that help our students reach the school's expected outcomes.
WOLCS students score well above the national average on the Stanford
Achievement Tests which are administered each spring.
Spiritual Life:
Bible is taught daily as a separate subject in each classroom. Bible
memorization is assigned weekly and is considered extremely important to
the spiritual growth and Christian character development of our
students.
Chapel:
Students attend a forty-five minute chapel service each week. Chapel
messages are based on a monthly theme. Lively worship and student
participation make chapel a highlight of each week. Parents are welcome
to worship with us.
Computer Lab:
Beginning in Kindergarten, students go to computer lab each week.
Technology skills are taught in tandem with other areas of the
curriculum. Students research, write, prepare presentations while
learning to use common computer programs such as word processing, spread
sheets and PowerPoint.
Physical Education:
Students go to PE class two times per week. A physical education
curriculum produced by Christian Schools International is used to insure
that lessons are developmentally appropriate for each grade level.
Student do not change clothes for PE but are required to wear tennis
shoes. Participation in PE is a required and graded subject.
Music Classes:
Once per week students go to music class where they do lots of
signing; learning basic music theory; practice rhythms, melodies and
harmony; experience various types of music including folk, jazz,
classical, and patriotic; and learn about composers.
Art:
The Arts Attack curriculum provides the basis for our weekly art
lessons in each classroom. This video based program helps teachers
facilitate art lessons which give students experience with a wide
variety of expression and media.
Interscholastic Student Competitions and Festivals:
WOLCS students participate in student activities sponsored by the
Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI)
- ACSI Spelling Bee
- ACSI Math Olympics
- ACSI Speech Festival
- ACSI Creative Writing Festival
- ACSI Geography Bowl
Mission Trips and Service Projects:
The following are some of the projects WOLCS students have
participated in.
- Katrina Relief - providing hygiene packs
- Visits to local senior citizens homes
- Sponsoring a child through Compassion International
- Purchasing a sheep or another animal for families in third world
countries.
- Writing letters and sending gifts to serve men and women through
a project called "Support Our Troops."
Sports:
Water of Life Community Church conducts Upward Basketball and cheer
each year from November through March. WOLCS students may participate in
Upward programs.
Drama:
Yearly Christmas programs, talent shows and chapel presentation by
students are some of the ongoing opportunities for our students to enjoy
performance and gain stage presence.
Staff:
Our staff is the key to our success. Dedicated Christian teachers and
support staff who feel called to Christian school ministry assist our
students to grow in Christ, learn the principals of God's word and take
steps toward their destiny. Click here for more
information on staff requirements.
